Sunset in South Haven Michigan Happens Every Evening.
The sunset in South Haven is not always visible, but when it is, it’s enjoyable!
The South Beach Lighthouse is so often photographed that it is instantly recognized whenever I see photos of it.
I, myself have several hundred photos of it in every season, and at all times of the day and night.
We travel on back roads, usually ending up on either coast, along the Great Lakes, big rivers, swamps, or near water, just because we find the coolest scenic vistas there. Sunsets and sunrises over a lake, ocean or river are the best!
There are many angles to getting great sunset or sunrise photos. The first is getting out there. The second is knowing your light. Then having the right camera and knowing how to use it. I use a simple to use digital camera, a Panasonic Lumix DMC FZ60. It’s several models old now, but I like it.
The newer Panasonic LUMIX DMC-FZ1000 Camera has 21.1 megapixels and a Leica lens. That will probably be my next purchase. If you look at the reviews, it’s hard to find any negatives. I can’t wait!
When Arriving For The Sunset in South Haven:
South Haven has two city beaches, The North Beach and The South Beach that are conducive to taking photos of the South Haven Lighthouse. The lighthouse is actually on the South Beach Pier. The North Beach Pier has a smaller navigational “lighthouse”. The Black River runs between them out into Lake Michigan.
Early in the morning, you can see fishermen wheeling beach carts out on the pier hauling their fishing gear, coolers, and beach chairs for a morning of fishing for trout, salmon, or perch. Years ago you used to be able to pull up two jumbo perch at a time, fishing with minnows on a perch rig. Not any more.
If you are traveling to South Haven, Michigan and need lodging, I can whole heartily recommend The Yelton Manor Bed and Breakfast. I know the owners and they are the most passionate innkeepers you will ever find! Winners of countless awards for their impeccable service and then there’s the incredible food!!! Oh my gosh! Go here for the ultimate lodging experience in South Haven! (from here, it’s just steps away from a sunset in South Haven)
There are a lot of really nice shops in downtown South Haven. The restaurants can have a waiting line most days in the summer. The summer festivals attract thousands, especially the 4th of July fireworks display which is spectacular. The fireworks are shot over the lake after sunset in South Haven. Just a blast!
Well, time to head out to the South Beach and check out the sunset in South Haven, again. I never tire of it. Never the same show twice!
